Misha and Ivo celebrate one year of ADC Live! by exploring LumApps Broadcasts. They cover how Broadcasts replaced legacy newsletters, build a personalized, segmented broadcast live, and share best practices for getting employees to open and engage. There's also a World Cup surprise.

A year in

This episode marked one year of ADC Live!, about 27 episodes covering everything from architecture to AI to analytics. We didn't make a big fuss about it. We had a World Cup to talk about and a demo to run.

First, the World Cup

The tournament kicked off the next day, so we showed our new World Cup widget. Employees pick a match, predict the score, and can change their minds until kickoff. It works for any soccer match, so it doesn't expire when the final whistle blows. More at adc.dev.

Why Broadcasts

If you were around LumApps in 2017, you remember the newsletter module. It did the job, barely. Scheduling was clunky, layouts were rigid, and personalization was basically nonexistent.

Broadcasts replaced it. They live in LumApps' Content Strategy suite next to Campaigns (topic-based series like town halls or leadership updates) and Segments (audience targeting based on profile data). And they go well beyond email: push, SMS, Slack, Google Chat, and Teams are all on the table.

The demo

A few things worth calling out:

  • The broadcast calendar shows everything sent, scheduled, and in draft in one monthly view. If you plan comms, you'll live here.

  • Banners, dividers, buttons, and two-column layouts take seconds to add.

  • We embedded a LumApps Play video from a past episode directly in the email.

  • One section, "New to ADC?", was restricted to a New Hires segment. Everyone gets the same broadcast, but only new hires see that block.

  • Send yourself a test, schedule it, or start from a template next time.

  • Pro tip: use their name

Broadcasts support personalization keywords, so your opener can greet each reader by first name, last name, or both. It's a small thing that makes a big difference in how people read the rest.

What makes people actually open them

  • Target carefully. Segment by role, relevance, or start date. If you want to reach people in their first 90 days, you can.

  • Don't flood inboxes. A steady campaign to the right people beats daily blasts to everyone.

  • Write better subject lines. If you're stuck, AI tools are surprisingly good at this.

  • Keep the look consistent, but vary the content. "Make your World Cup pick before kickoff" will get more clicks than another policy reminder.

  • Send when people are there. Login heat maps tell you when that is, even by location.

  • Have a plan. Keep a shared comms calendar with clear owners and approvals so messages don't collide.
