Choosing the Right LumApps Content Structure: Spaces, Communities, and Content-Type Pages
SME ALERT: The following knowledge article is a deep dive into deep LumApps contents.
As you continue to evolve your LumApps employee experience platform, selecting the right area where to create your content is critical to delivering effective user experiences and streamlining content governance. LumApps offers three main options for content creation: Spaces, Communities, and Content-Type Pages; each offering unique strengths tailored to different organizational needs and use cases. Understanding the distinctions can help digital teams align structure with purpose, while optimizing scalability and engagement.
Spaces offer a simplified, out-of-the-box solution for teams or departments looking for a consistent and controlled environment. With a baked-in OOTB navigation experience consistent across all Space subpages (homepage, events, articles, etc.), Spaces ensure a cohesive user experience without the need for ongoing design maintenance. Their self-service nature, document storage capabilities, and governance controls make them ideal for teams that require autonomy without the complexity of custom development. Spaces also offer an Advanced Member role, allowing only special users rights to create Articles and Events.
Communities provide more design flexibility for teams. While they offer mostly similar governance features to Cpaces (minus the Advanced Member role), LumApps Communities allow greater customization on subpages such as posts and events pages. This makes them well-suited for teams who are more advanced in their design skills and wanting a more personalized touch.
Content-Type Pages, often used by internal communications or KM teams, deliver the highest level of control and editorial functionality. They include features like version history, content expiration, ghostwriting (publishing on behalf of executives), and detailed access controls. This is the highest level of structured content that LumApps has, and is best suited for formal / top-down communications, leadership announcement using ghostwriting features, or long, elaborate and rich KB / Wiki pages where rich editing and formatting capabilities, paired with advanced publication features, access and permissions are paramount.
Ultimately, choosing between these three options comes down to balancing governance, ease of use, and the level of user engagement required. While Spaces shine in simplicity and speed,
Communities support collaborative flexibility, and Content-Type Pages deliver structured, high-impact communication. Understanding these trade-offs will enable you to design and evolve the best and most sustainable portal to meet the diverse needs of your employee base.
