A new layout option brings greater flexibility to one of our LumApps extensions.
The ADC Advanced Table of Contents widget has received a significant enhancement: support for a horizontal layout mode. Previously available only in a vertical orientation, the widget can now be configured to display navigation items horizontally across the top of a page — offering a new and more versatile content navigation experience for LumApps administrators and page owners alike.
The update was notable enough to be featured directly in LumApps' own official release notes, reflecting the widget's standing as a trusted extension within the LumApps ecosystem.
What Changes With Horizontal Mode
The existing vertical mode organizes anchor-tag navigation items in a top-to-bottom list, well suited for sidebars and narrower column layouts. The new horizontal mode repositions those same navigation items across a single row, functioning more like a page-level navigation bar. This makes it particularly well suited for long-form content such as knowledge base articles, policy documents, product resource pages, and onboarding materials — anywhere a top-of-page navigation experience is more intuitive than a side panel.
All existing widget functionality carries over into the horizontal layout, including dynamic anchor-tag generation, smooth scrolling, sticky positioning, and the ability to copy and share direct links to specific sections of a page.
Why It Matters
For organizations managing large volumes of long-form content in LumApps, the horizontal mode expands the range of page designs and templates the widget can support. Content that previously required workarounds or alternative navigation approaches can now be addressed directly within the Table of Contents widget, without additional administrative overhead.
As with all ADC extension widgets, the configuration is managed at the template level — once set up, page owners can maintain their content independently without ongoing involvement from site administrators.
